He received further acclaim for his performance as Tony Stonem in the E4 teen drama Skins.

Following these roles, Hoult found further critical and commercial success after landing the role of Beast in the X-Men films, Kenny Potter in A Single Man, the zombie R in Warm Bodies, author J. D. Salinger in Rebel in the Rye, the War Boy Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road, and as inventor Nikola Tesla in The Current War.
