The Keystone State is home to more than 12.8 million residents, making it the 6th-most populated state in the nation. One of the 13 original colonies, Pennsylvania was the second state admitted to the union, doing so on Dec. 12, 1787. Spread across 46,000 square miles, Pennsylvania stretches between New Jersey in the east and Lake Erie and Ontario, Canada, in the northwest.
