The initial selection for induction into the 1:43 Diecast Scale Model Hall of Fame, father Charles O. Dowst along with his son Samuel, are considered to be the fathers of diecast cars. By 1899, the Dowst duo began making metal novelties, and by 1911 they released the first real automotive toy, a 47mm long limousine. Six years later, in 1917, they released the first toy resembling the Model T. Still later came Grahams, LaSalles, Ford Model As, and Macks among others. 

Charles O. Dowst and his son Samuel were part of the inaugural class of 2007 into the 1:43 Diecast Scale Model Hall of Fame.
