It was 26th January 1990 that Argentinian Sergio Goldvarg and his wife Mariana launched their very first 1:43 white metal model, the 1957 Oldsmobile, to herald a range of American 1940s and 1950s model cars, made in their home country.

Sergio had his own factory where the models were manufactured in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and this was the very first attempt to make white metal models in 1:43 scale, for the collector, in South America. All the brass masters were made, and the painting, casting and assembly, were all undertaken on site by either Sergio himself or his employees.

The models produced were strong and heavyweight, without the fragility of some contemporary examples of the time and certainly had a character of their own. The presentation of their models was a style not seen before, with leaflets included in the eye catching red and gold boxes promoting the models in comic style. Each model carried a tag signed by Sergio.

Their first model was an elegant 1951 Henry J Kaiser finished in a light metallic grey with maroon interior and an abundance of plated parts. The base inscription included a tribute to their son Kevin, born in 1991.

The Goldvargs original plan was to produce sixteen models. However, on Sergio’s move to Florida, USA, the 1958 Oldsmobile was made in England by SMTS, using his pattern. Sergio found the costs associated with production in England very high.

However, the story of The Goldvarg Collection continues as he currently has completed brass masters to produce the following:

  1. Plymouth Fury 1960
  2. Pontiac Bonneville 1959
  3. Nash Golden Airflyte 1952 4 door Sedan
  4. Mercury Park Lane 1960
  5. Oldsmobile 1957 Convertible.
  6. Pontiac Star Chief 1955 Hard Top w/Continental Kit
  7. Mercury Montclair 1956 Hard Top.

He also intends to produce a number of different variations from the old original brass masters. He is now looking for the right manufacturer. Sergio has a huge scale model car collection of his own, totalling nearly 14.000 models, in scales ranging from 1:43, 1:50 to 1:18. In 2007 and 2009 he achieved an entry in the Guinness World of Records, the first time with 7,000 models and in 2009 with 12,000.

Whilst his main collection is at home, Sergio has many 1:18 scale models on display at the restaurant that he owns at 3285 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, Florida, known as "Waffleworks." He also collects Batmobiles in all scales, from 1:87 to 1:1, owning one of the original cars used by Adam West! So if you’re in Hollywood, be sure to stop by and enjoy a meal in this fun restaurant, and soak up the model car ambience.
