In drag racing, Shirley Shahan was the first woman to win a NHRA national race, the 1966 Winternationals in the Top Stock class. Shirley Muldowney was the first woman drag racer to compete in Top Fuel, the main class of the National Hot Rod Association, and won the 1977, 1980 & 1982 championships. Angelle Sampey won three consecutive Pro Stock Motorcycle titles from 2000 to 2002.  Shahan's groundbreaking win at the 1966 Winternationals was the focus of ABC's Wide World of Sports camera crew. With H.L. on wrenches and Shirley at the wheel, the couple was the sport's premier husband-wife duo of early drag racing lore.
