Ferninand de Vazelles founded Solido in the 1930s, creating a Gergovia spark plug on wheels, setting a foundation through the 1950s for models crafted with clockwork motors. A new 1/43 scale model was unveiled in 1957 and featured suspensions and opening parts, among other new inventions. Though known for its 1/43 scale, the Nanterre, France, company has created smaller and larger models.

Majorette took over Solido in 1980 and began issuing Solido models under the brand Verem. The company shuttered its Oulins, France, factory in 2006, transferring production duties to China.
