Before worldwar 2 Stelco started as Metallwarenfabrik Dr. Adolf Kürschner in Fürth, Germany , as  a small factory that specialized in toys. After the war the company was expropieted and moved to Nurnberg and back to Fürth in 1952.

In 1965 the company was headed by Adolf Kürstner’s son in law Heino Stelter and the name of the company was changed to
” Spielwarenfabrik Dr. Adolf Kürschner - Inhaber Stelter & Co”, or  AK Stelco (AK = Adolf Kürschner, Stelco = Stelter & Co).

” Spielwarenfabrik Dr. Adolf Kürschner - Inhaber Stelter & Co”, or  AK Stelco (AK = Adolf Kürschner, Stelco = Stelter & Co).

The company manufactured metal toys, and later on plastic toys like cars, garages,trains, music instruments, figurines, airplanes, rockets and so on. (Vinyl line series of car models are  still very sought after in Germany by collectors)

In the seventees the Japanese company “Tomy” participated in AK Stelco and in 1976 a fire badly damaged the Stelco factory causing 6 million dollars in damage and bankruptcy.

In 1979 Tomy bought the company and changed the name to “ Tomy Spielwaren GmbH” Tomy’s toys partnership.
