On October 23, 1857, the "stock brewery" was founded at the present location of the Sternquell brewery in the Syratal Valley, thus laying the foundations for today's Sternquell Brewery GmbH Plauen. The brewing flourished in the 1960s, when the first investments were made to improve quality. During this time, the star source was created
Pilsener, which today is the main product of Sternquell.

After the political change in Germany, Sternquell-Brauerei GmbH was founded in 1990 as a subsidiary of the Kulmbacher Group.

Since then, Sternquell has grown into a major Saxon brewery, which also led to numerous investment steps. Already in 1995 the entire logistics was transferred to the Plauen-Neuensalz site on the A72 motorway (Hof-Chemnitz). A further milestone was the inauguration of the new bottle cellar in 2001. The beer is still brewed in the Dobenaustrasse, the site where the company's history originated almost 150 years ago.
