Throughout its long history, this race has been known under many names, from its inception in 1960 as the Armstrong 500 (1960-65), then the Gallaher 500 (1966-67), the Hardie-Ferodo 500 (1968-72), the Hardie-Ferodo 1000 (1973-80), the James Hardie 1000 (1981-87), the Tooheys 1000 (1988-95), the AMP Bathurst 1000 (1996-98), the FAI 1000 (1998-2000), the V8 Supercar 1000 (2001), the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 (2002-04), to its current name, the Supercheap Auto Barthurst 1000.
