The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Museum

Something Missing?

The current Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum moved to its current location after it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1959, a building considered a landmark work of 20th century architecture. It took Wright 15 years to complete the design for the museum, including 700 sketches and six sets of working drawings.

The museum itself houses a seemingly ever-growing body of avant garde art. The museum's name in the beginning was the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, but was renamed The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum after the death of its founder, Solomon R. Guggenheim, in 1952.
