Turbo Tricksters

Tonka | Series

Something Missing?

Series of pullback penny racers distributed by Tonka, probably in the early 1990s. They are using the same castings as Takara Choro Q as they were also manufactured by Takara. Contrary to Choro Q, which were assembled in Japan, these were assembled in Macao, China.

Sold on single car blister cards, the main series features 48 different cars with the collector number on a sticker applied to the back of each car.

Each card back shows one of twelve stunts to be performed with household items:

  • Stunt #1 - Leap 'n Land
  • Stunt #2 - Dare-Devil Dive
  • Stunt #3 - Target Test
  • Stunt #4 - Stunt Bowling
  • Stunt #5 - Danger Drive
  • Stunt #6 - Crash Ball
  • Stunt #7 - Tunnel Test
  • Stunt #8 - Sky-High Jump
  • Stunt #9 - Terror Trail
  • Stunt #10 - Wild Wrecking
  • Stunt #11 - Dizzy Dare
  • Stunt #12 - Wheelie Challenge

Some cards were only available in English (Part No. 502059) while others had an English/French counterpart (Part No. 502062), probably for the Canadian market (alternate series title: "Trucs").

The series saw two playsets with one and two exclusive vehicles respectively (Ref#s 051 to 053).

There probably was a second series during the 90s with a different style sticker, that continued the collector numbers, probably up to No. 096.

Later on the series had a subseries of monster trucks called "4x4s" with eight known vehicles (No. 101 to 108).
