Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is a 1971 film adapation of Roald Dahl's 1964 children's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, although changes in the film made against Roald Dahl's wishes led to Dahl disowning the film.

It was produced by the Wolper Pictures, Ltd. and The Quaker Oats Company, and distributed by Paramount Pictures until 1977, after which Warner Bros. took over the rights for home entertainment purposes in the 1980's.

The film stars Gene Wilder as the titular character who releases five tickets in random chocolate bars that are distributed throughout the world.  These tickets are found be five children, who are then allowed to tour his factory, although many unfortunate things happen to the children as they misbehave.
