Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Allchin Traction Engine

Seen for the first time at the 1956 Toy and Trade Fair in Birmingham. It has many variations notably the color of the boiler door, the different shades of red found on the spokes and the different types of tread found on the rear wheels.

Early models have axles pinched at one end, while later models have toggles on both ends. models with diagonal treads angled in either directionhave been freported.

In late 1963 when the model was coming to its end of production, it was discovered that the dies for the rear wheels were no longer of use. Smooth tread wheels from th Y11-1 Aveling and Porter Steam Roller were substituted by the manufacturers to ensure that completed models could in fact leave the factory. The 'smooth wheeled' Allchin is extremely rare.
