When Lee Petty won the NASCAR Grand National title in 1954, some thought he had reached the peak of his racing career - in fact, he was only getting warmed up. In 1957, Petty scored an early "factory" deal with Oldsmobile, which helped propel him to two more Grand National titles in '58 and '59. These three titles put Lee prominently in the history books - and firmly established the name Petty as the greatest in racing. HOT WHEELS Racing proudly commemorates Lee Petty's achievements with the classic racer that helped popel him to greatness: a 1957 Olds sedan.
Before he became a NASCAR legend, Richard Petty was a young, tough-as-nails driver behind the wheels of a 1957 Olds. On July 12, 1958 - only ten days after he turned 21 - he entered his first race, driving a spare Olds from the Petty Garage. On a dirt raceway in Columbia, S.C., Petty took the track in the #42 Olds, igniting one of the most incredible careers in racing history. HOT WHEELS Racing commemorates Richard Petty's exciting early days with this classic racer from the Petty stable: a 1957 Olds sedan.
