Direhorse

Something Missing?

The direhorse (Na'vi name: pa'li) is a crucial mode of transport and mount for hunting for all Na’vi clans — especially the Olangi. Rugged terrain and dense forests are little concern for a direhorse, its six strong legs are superbly adapted for even the most weathered conditions. Direhorses have excellent reactions, can turn on a dime, and can leap large distances. Direhorses are tamed—often with some difficulty—when the would-be rider forms a neural link, known as tsaheylu, with the animal. Once this is achieved, a Na’vi rider can communicate directions and commands instantly, almost as if the direhorse was an extension of the rider’s own body. Due to this symbiotic neural interface, a Na'vi is free to use a bow and arrow during a hunt or battle while riding one of these creatures. This neural link made between rider and direhorse does not lead to a lifelong, exclusive bond between Na'vi and animal; although riders have their favorite mounts, it is possible and permissible to ride another clan member’s direhorse.
