Something Missing?

Railtrack was the name of a group of companies in the United Kingdom that owned the railways, signals, tunnels, bridges, railroad crossings, and most stations of the privatized British railway network from 1994 to 2002.

The company was founded as part of the privatization of British Rail, the state railway company of the United Kingdom. Railtrack plc was temporarily listed on the FTSE 100 Index, the UK's largest stock index. However, as early as October 3, 2002, the main business part was sold to the company Network Rail, after Railtrack in particular by a cost underestimation in the modernization of the West Coast Main Linewas experiencing significant financial difficulties and three major casualties in the British public raised significant doubts that a privately owned and profit-seeking company could maintain the usual safety standards in rail transport. Network Rail, unlike Railtrack, was previously a non-profit company, with 116 mostly public corporations. The parent company Railtrack Group plc, which has been renamed RT Group, was ultimately dissolved on 22 June 2010.
