Sachsenring

Brand

Something Missing?

August Horch founded the car brand named after him, Horch. After the WWII, this factory was behind the iron curtain. It was nationalised and renamed VEB Automobilwerk Zwickau, later called VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau and produced the Trabant range of cars since 1958 in the GDR, but not before they made a series of large limousines, based on the Horch cars of before WWII.

Note that Sachsenring as a brand name (as opposed to the name of the factory) was only used for the range of large limousines. The smaller cars were originally branded AWZ (for Automobilwerk Zwickau), and after the AWZ P70 Zwickau had been phased out, the remaining AWZ P50 Trabant was re-branded Trabant P50.
