------------------------------------------------
Vanguards started as a collection of '50s and '60s mostly British cars and trucks made by Lledo. The cars and small vans were modelled in 1:43 scale, whilst the larger trucks were made to 1:64 scale.
Early models were sold in window boxes similar to the Days Gone series, before the much more familiar carboard lift-off lid boxes were introduced and the range grew rapidly thereafter.
Following the change of ownership to Corgi in 1999, the Vanguards name continued, with the Lledo name initially being retained, but eventually disappearing. Some 1:43 cars and small vans from the Corgi Classics range were transferred over to the Vanguards brand, many with an increased level of detail. A few models were found in both, the Corgi Classics and Vanguards ranges - Morris Minors in particular - but generally speaking it was ultimately the Corgi variant that survived.
The range has grown to around 150 castings over the years, and whilst many (including those early 1:64 lorries) have been retired, it is still growing, with cars from the 70s, 80s, 90s and even some contemporary ones being added.
