Osha the Wildling

Game of Thrones | Character

Something Missing?

Osha, also known as Osha the Wildling, is a fictional character appearing in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, making her debut in A Game of Thrones (1996). She also appears as a major character in its HBO television adaptation, Game of Thrones (2011-2013, 2016). In the story, Osha is a wildling spearwife from beyond The Wall who attempts to escape the Army of the Dead, only to be taken prisoner by the Starks of Winterfell. She ends up developing a bond with the Stark boys, Bran and Rickon, and eventually helps them escape Winterfell during a time of crisis. While Bran Stark makes his way to the Three-Eyed Crow, Osha protects his younger brother Rickon as she escorts him to safety.

In the television adaptation, Osha was portrayed by Natalia Tena, who received praise from George R. R. Martin himself, who stated that he prefers Osha in the television adaptation over his original interpretation. Because of Tena's performance of the character, Martin wants to expand the role of the character in the novels and make her a more dynamic and complex character.
