Hotsuma is a fictional character featured in Sega's Shinobi franchise, first appearing as the protagonist in the 2002 reboot title for PlayStation 2. In the Shinobi franchise, Hotsuma was a young master ninja and the headmaster of the Oboro family. Originally a compassionate and gentle young man, his personality drastically changed when he and his older brother, Moritsune, were forced into a barbaric sealing ritual to appease the demon blade, Akujiki. After the ritual, Hotsuma became the Oboro clan's leader, but lost his beloved older brother; as a result Hotsuma closed himself off emotionally.
Hotsuma has made few appearances outside of Shinobi (2002), but has made several cameo and legacy appearances in other Sega video games, including Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (2012), the Yakuza franchise, and Sega Heroes (2018).
